This meditation / activity builds upon Four Social Worlds π΅οΈββοΈπ³ππ through the lens of anthropological field work. It helps build our π€ Values Empathy.
Go to a public place you enjoy hanging out. Ideally well frequented and when the weather β is good. Take tea or snacks with you. Maybe a pillow for extra comfort. Do you need π sunglasses?
Sit down and π§ββοΈ quiet. Notice how you feel, then switch to noticing your surroundings.
Who do you see? What are they doing?
Start to π speculate. What is the internal space of the people you see? What β£ emotions can you perceive or speculate about? What are they thinking about and paying attention to?
Round 1: Speculate and analyze their activities around the 4 Social Dimensions (πExpectations, πStrategy, πObservation, π³Appreciation). What is this Adonis jogging for? Why is the young mum talking on the phone while walking her baby in a trolley? And what's the old dude with the sunglasses and newspaper up to?
Round 2: Re-center your lens on pure π³ appreciation. Every activity that you perceive is ONLY driven by what the person finds meaningful in what they are currently doing. Speculate about their values, recording π voice memo(s) with 3 - 5 speculations.
They ought to be scattered and messy. Like memo-journaling.
π»π» For extra growth: Get gritty about the values. Can you be more specific about what they might find meaningful, or what you would find meaningful when in that scenario?
πΆπΆ For extra spice: Actually go to people you observed and strike up a conversation. Tell them about your mission and speculations, practicing 'High relationality'. Can they identify with your speculations? How do they react? Are they curious to know more?
π§ββοΈπ§ββοΈ For extra fun: Ask a friend to join you in People Watching.
β²β² To integrate into everyday life: Hack the quest. Record memo's one by one, whenever you are in public and feel like speculating about others values. On a walk, in a train, in school. Or do it with friends or family in your community house.
